Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) will host its annual “Splash into Spring,” a Community Water Festival, on Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at EVMWD’s headquarters at 31315 Chaney St., Lake Elsinore.
This event will feature sewage treatment plant tours, water wise landscape demonstrations, raffles for water saving prizes, advanced meter demonstrations, landscape, plant and irrigation experts, water and waste related trucks and equipment, games and activates for kids and free refreshments. Customers of EVMWD can receive a free hose nozzle or shower head while supplies last.
EVMWD staff will share their daily work at the district though a variety of demonstrations and interactive displays. Activities will include fixing a leaky water main, performing a valve exercise, operating a fire hydrant, cleaning up a polluted watershed and exploring pipes with robotics and video cameras.
A crowd favorite is a tour of the facility’s sewer treatment plant, where visitors take a journey through the plant to see how waste water becomes recycled water.
The Lake Elsinore Sheriff and American Medical Response will be on hand with emergency vehicles for children to explore. Another highlight will be Tours of Elsinore Eddie’s Gardens at the headquarters, giving visitors an idea of how beautiful a water efficient landscape can be.
Landscape and irrigation experts, University of California Riverside Master Gardeners, local nurseries, irrigation specialists and home improvement stores will be on hand to answer questions about outdoor irrigation, California-friendly plants, gardening and water saving appliances and devices.
There will be special visits from Discovery Cube, Diamond Valley Lake, AMR Ambulance, City of Lake Elsinore, Home Depot, Lowe’s, the Master Gardeners Program and more.
There also will be special visits from EVMWD’s Elsinore Eddie, Storm Baseball’s Thunder and Lake Elsinore/San Jacinto Watershed Authority’s Bessie the Bass.
Scout troops can earn a Water Explorer Badge when they visit this event. The event covers most activities in the Brownie “World of Water try It,” as well.
EVMWD provides service to more than 142,000 water and wastewater customers in a 96-square-mile area in Western Riverside. The District is a sub-agency of the Western Municipal Water District and a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
