Men’s Golf Fellowship

The Men’s Golf Fellowship group will meet Thursday morning, May 19, in the Magnolia Room of the Country Club. Breakfast begins at 6:15 a.m.; golf begins at 7:46. Pastor Dave Dick, senior pastor at Canyon Lake Community Church, will give his testimony about how God called him to become a pastor. He also will play golf with the group. Breakfast is $7; golf is $5 (or $38 for those who aren’t members of the Men’s Golf Club). There is a $120 prize. Doe’s Derby Tournament

The 29th annual Doe’s Derby Tournament, sponsored by CLIPPS, will be held Tuesday, May 24, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start during the regular Tuesday play day. The tournament is no longer a senior tournament with an age restriction; it is now open to all Canyon Lake women who have an established golf handicap.

Participants can sign up in the Pro Shop as a single, twosome or foursome.  The tournament fee of $35 per person includes lunch and awards at the Country Club following play. Both gross and net awards will be given in each flight as well as the over-the-field net award.

Organizers invite members of the Women’s Golf Club, Family Golf Club and the 9ers Golf Club, as well as any other Canyon Lake women who have an established handicap, to participate. For more information, contact Barbara Albrecht at 951-244-4268 or Joanna Spiller at 951-244-1553.

Men’s Golf Championship

The Men’s Golf Club will hold its annual Club Championship Tournament on June 4, 5, 11 and 12. The entry fee is $45; cart and green fee are not included. The signup sheet is in the Golf Pro Shop, along with more information.

Women’s Golf Championship

The Women’s Golf Club is holding its annual Club Championship Tournament on June 14, 16 and 21. To qualify, one must have played and posted six sanctioned club events in the last six months. Sign up in the Pro Shop before the deadline of June 7. The fee is $35. Overall Champion and 1st place winners of each flight will receive a diamond or medallion. Other winners will receive a prize. For more information, call Tournament Chair Ura Furry at 951-244-1910.

After Lunch Bunch

Twenty-eight players “dodged the storm” (forecasted rain) for last week’s After Lunch Bunch Game, with a format of Partners Best Ball. The results were as follows:

A Flight – 1st: Jim Magill and Fran Pothier, 58 ; 2nd: Bob Stinson and Carlos Ramirez, 60

B Flight – 1st: Dennis Franks and Marv Tweedy, 55; 2nd: Bob Clow and Danny Batinich, 56

Skins winners were Tom Scudieri, Lee Lilly, Dennis Franks, Carlos Ramirez, Bob Clow, Tom Fuhrman, Danny Batinich and Marv Tweedy. Next week’s game will be Six-Six-Six. That’s the game where one ball of the foursome is counted on the first six holes, two balls on the second six holes, and three balls on the last six holes.

The After Lunch Bunch is a weekly Friday game for any male golfer with a handicap. Tee-off is around 10 a.m. Sign up between 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. in the Magnolia Room, or by phone at 249-4565 or 237-6102. The entry fee is $5; there is an optional skins game for an additional $5.

Family Golf Club

Membership in the Family Golf Club is open to all golfers – men, women and youths are welcome. The club’s official golf day is Wednesday, at approximately 11:30 a.m. Some members schedule golf days on Mondays, Fridays or Saturdays at 11:30.

The tournament director works closely with Golf Pro Pat Kemball and his staff to assure that tournaments are balanced. Organizers say all members enjoy a fun and friendly atmosphere.

The Family Golf Club is a member of the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA). It holds open meetings the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Magnolia Room at the Country Club. For membership information/application, contact Kevin O’Leary at 951-818-3361. 9ers Golf Club

Ladies who would like to play with the 9ers Golf Club are invited to contact Linda Kielty at 951-746-2250. All levels of golfers are welcome. The club meets each Thursday, at 9:30 a.m., in the Magnolia Room at the Country Club. They tee off at 10.
