Swivel Ski Competition

There is a new type of ski event scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at the North Ski Area. It’s called “Flaunt It,” a swivel ski competition, sanctioned through USA Waterski. This is the very first Flaunt It Swivel Competition planned for the Western Region. The North Ski area will be closed from 8 to 11 a.m., with the competition beginning at 9 a.m.

But just what is swivel skiing?

A swivel ski is a wide, single ski in which the binding platform is mounted on ball bearings. This enables the skier to rotate from 180 degrees to 1080 degrees (three full turns), all while the ski is still facing toward the tow boat. Basically, it’s ballet-type movements and tricks on a waterski!

According to the Canyon Lake Ski Club, female swivel ski enthusiasts and professionals from all over the United States and Canada will be competing at this event. Everyone is encouraged to come out and watch!
