NOVEMBER 10, 2017 THE FRIDAY FLYER A-3
Volunteers deliver
flags to CL veterans
One of the goals of the Veterans Day Committee is to make Canyon Lake veterans and active duty service mem- bers feel appreciated. It is a tradition of the Veterans Day Committee to deliver a flag to every veteran and active duty service person who is registered with the City of Canyon Lake.
In preparation for Veterans Day, com- mittee members and community volun- teers placed American flags in the front yards of Canyon Lake Veterans last weekend. The volunteers teamed up to distribute more than 300 flags around Canyon Lake. Many of the veterans were at home while the flags were being delivered, which provided an opportuni- ty for the volunteers to introduce them- selves and personally thank the veterans for their service.
This year’s flags were donated by res- idents Warren Kelsey and Jack Wamsley. Warren and Jack were among the men who helped spearhead Canyon Lake to cityhood and served on the first Canyon Lake City Council.
The Canyon Lake Ladies of the Lake group prepared the flags for the commit- tee members. The task included group- ing the flags and tying a yellow ribbon around each one.
The list of veterans was assembled by residents submitting their information to city hall. Canyon Lake Veterans who wish to have a flag placed in their yard and their name added to the veterans
banner that hangs in city hall next year should fill out the form at Pack, Wrap & Post in the Towne Center by Nov. 1, 2018. Veterans who already submitted their information do not need to resub- mit it next year.
The flags and banner are reserved for veterans who currently reside in Can- yon Lake and veterans who are former residents of Canyon Lake but still have a family member who resides in Canyon Lake.
