Year in Review – Part 2
Canyon Lakers were delighted to wake up on the last day of the year, December 31, to the sight of surrounding hills covered in snow. Although several residents reported seeing snow fall overnight in Canyon Lake, it didn’t stay on the ground like it did in some neighboring communities.
Still, the view from Canyon Lake was priceless, as captured by several photographers. Unfortunately, due to holiday deadlines, the printed version of The Friday Flyer had to go to press before these photos were avail- able last week.
The photo above, sent in by Bob Ireland, reached more people than any other photo ever run on The Friday Flyer’s Facebook page: 18,576 people reached. It was “liked” by 360 people and had 207 “shares.” But that was no surprise, as residents of Canyon Hills and the entire valley, from Lake Elsinore to Temecula, inundated Facebook with one snowy scene after another.
Many Canyon Lakers wrote on Facebook about play- ing in the snow in Canyon Hills and other nearby neigh- borhoods. Summerhill Rd. into Tuscany Hills and I-15 at Clinton Keith experienced early morning closures due to the heavy snowfall. Some of the communities in higher elevations, such De Luz, La Cresta and El Cariso Village on Ortega Hwy. had extensive power outages and damage from oak trees felled by the heavy, wet snow.
The epic weather event of January 31, 2014 will be a shared memory for years and decades to come.
