Kendra Nathan receives Ski Club $500 scholarship

Highly-decorated teen Canyon Lake skier Kendra Nathan has received the first Imre and Betsy Weil Water Ski Scholarship scholarship by The Canyon Lake Water Ski Club. Kendra is currently attending the University of Louisiana Lafayette on an academic and water ski scholarship. She plans to study Elementary Education and teach English in a foreign country.

Kendra is a three-Event water skier who grew up in Canyon Lake and began skiing at age 8 and competing at age 10. She has skied in local tournaments, the Water Ski Western Regionals, and the US Nationals.

Additionally, Kendra has also competed at the Pan Am Games Under 14 and Under 17, Jr. World‘s Under 17 and Under 21, Jr. Canadian Open Under 21, Jr. U.S. Open Under 17 and Under 21, and the Jr. Masters two times.

Kendra said that she will use this scholarship to influence the sport of water skiing as a member of the Water Ski Team at her university. She hopes to help increase awareness to younger skiers that they can go to college and water ski on a scholarship.

The Imre and Betsy Weil Water Ski Scholarship was developed to support the sport of three-event water skiing. Named after Imre Weil, a long-time member of the Canyon Lake Water Ski Club, and his wife Betsy, the scholarship provides $500 to the selected recipient residing in the United States Western Region. The scholarship was established last year and Kendra is its first recipient.
