In Memoriam: Robert Gary Sheppy

Robert Gary Sheppy

Robert (Bob) Gary Sheppy was born to George Elmer Sheppy and Agnes Eleanor Sheppy (nee Price) on May 27, 1949 in Ohio. He moved states at an early age and spent his life in California. Bob passed away on July 3, 2021 at the age of 72. He lived in Canyon Lake at the time of his passing.

Bob led a good life filled with friends, family, success, love and good fortune. He was a devout Christian with a love for God which was apparent to anyone who knew him. He is survived by his daughter Mary Cameron, his son Michael Sheppy, his sister Kathy Bron, and his fiancée Sydney Huang.

Bob joins his father George, his mother Agnes and his older brother Michael in heaven. Bob had four grandchildren: Olivia, Finley, Elliott, and Aidan. Bob’s passing was sudden, which has caused a deep bereavement and sorrowful loss amongst his friends and family.

Bob had many talents and many interests. He loved guns, being an avid collector. He enjoyed the sport of hunting. He would deep-sea fish, ride his bike, do yoga at the gym, go boating out on the lake, throw a fun BBQ, and play with his Yorkshire terriers.

He was a strong build and could probably kick your butt with his Black Belt in Taekwondo. He served as a Steward with the Masonic Lodge in Riverside. With his friends he would enjoy a dram of whiskey and have a cigar. With his family he would cook lavish meals like curries, Hungarian dishes, cheese fondue, French onion soup and colorful salads.

But his talents were more than just sports and cooking. He had a natural ability to make friends. Chatting to anyone and everyone — in the grocery store, on the train, at the park. People were drawn to his natural charisma and sense of humor. His gregarious disposition led into his extensive career in education. He worked for many years within Riverside County including teaching computer science at Riverside Community College and California Baptist University. He retired from the Riverside County Information Technology Department in software support.

He taught children with special needs and worked with inmates at the County Jail. These two roles were especially a testament to his dedication to people. He was there to help those who needed his help the most. He wanted to be a teacher and a friend to those who were troubled or needed special support. This is a true reflection to the kind of man Bob was: dedicated, caring, kind and a good Christian.

Bob’s life was an exciting one. His childhood was full of outdoor adventures. He traveled around the world, he was in the Merchant Marines, and he had a high level of education including a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Education. He also had many teaching credentials and took classes on quick-draw shooting and Spanish learning. He created computer programs and was published for his work several times.

With Bob, there was always something new and exciting that he was involved with. This vitality drew people to him. He was loved deeply by his friends and family and he will be truly missed. May he rest in peace.
