EVMWD Board selects new general manager

At a recent board meeting, the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) Board of Directors selected Greg Thomas as the general manager.

In his new role as general manager, Thomas will carry out board directives, assuring compliance with EVMWD policies, overseeing projects to ensure water security and reliability and developing and implementing EVMWD’s business plan.

“We are pleased to have Greg as part of the EVMWD team,” Andy Morris, president of the board of directors, said. “His many years of experience, knowledge and proven leadership will enhance the district’s commitment to innovative approaches to sustaining water resources and providing excellent service.”

Thomas joins EVMWD as a seasoned leader specializing in engineering, construction, operations and maintenance. He most recently served as the general manager for the Rincon Del Diablo Municipal Water District, which serves parts of the City of Escondido, unincorporated Escondido and portions of San Marcos and Vista. Under his leadership, the Rincon Del Diablo District received the prestigious 2014 Recycled Water Agency of the Year honor.

Thomas spent 22 years with the U.S. Marine Corps, leading several civil and water-related projects. His final position was as the facility maintenance officer for Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, responsible for all buildings, roads, water, sewer, gas and electric. After his retirement, he served as an engineering and construction consultant in the private sector.

Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology from Purdue University and a master’s degree in business and management from Webster University. He also instructs a leadership in water management course at California State University San Marcos and serves on the school’s advisory board of the Certificate in Water Management and Leadership Program.

EVMWD provides service to over 155,000 water and wastewater customers in a 97-square mile service area in Western Riverside County. It is a sub-agency of the Western Municipal Water District and a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
