CL Mermaid Festival offers fun for all ages

Hosted by the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club, the 5th annual Mermaid Festival offered fun for all ages. Held on Saturday at Indian Beach, the Mermaid Festival featured a dance party for kids with a surprise visit from Santa Claus, a Cardboard Boat Challenge, a Pirate Ship Battle on the lake, contests for all ages, food booths, vendor booths, a Kids Zone, a Mermaid Grotto offering photo opportunities with mermaids and King Neptune, a Mermaid Lounge offering adult beverages, a Pirate Cove where kids could walk the plank and dig for treasures, raffles and a grand prize drawing for a chance to win an Aqua Lily Pad, an inflatable water bull, an inflatable swan that seats eight, a pontoon dinner cruise for eight and cash prizes.

The winners of the contests are as follows:

Little Mermaid (ages up to seven): Mya Rosenzweig (1st place), Payton Kirk (2nd place), Arielle Dalton (3rd place) and Raylon Simmon (4th place).

Little Mermaid (ages eight to 15): Zoey Carroll (1st place), Aaliyah Lopez (2nd place), Jennifer Moorman (3rd place tie) and Savannah Spitale (3rd place tie).

Glamorous Mermaid (adults): Tamara Colosimo (1st place), Alison Byer (2nd place) and Holly Biondi (3rd place).

Little Pirate: (ages up to 15): Kaden Azzato (1st place), Daniel Rosenzweig (2nd place) and Kacen Redlin (3rd place).

Knobbly Knees (adults): Josh (1st place), Jim Doherty (2nd place) and Adam Fisher (3rd place).

Cardboard Boat Challenge: Noah Derks (Fastest Youth), Bobby and Nakk Allen (Fastest Adults), Melissa, Mya and Mike Rosenweig and Mike Dowd (Best Dressed Vessel) and Lincoln Kingdon and Michael Nishida (Judges’ Choice).

The Woman’s Club thanks the volunteers, the event sponsors and the community for helping to make this event a success. The Woman’s Club raised more than $7,000 to go toward its philanthropic projects.

Founded in 1972, the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club is a non-profit, non-partisan, philanthropic service organization that raises funds throughout the year to donate to local organizations and to Canyon Lake girls in the form of student scholarships. In June, the Woman’s Club donated $42,000.
