City Council vacancy to be filled by appointment

The recent resignation of Mayor Larry Greene has left a vacant seat on the City Council. The vacancy will be filled by appointment. The appointed individual will serve the remainder of the vacant term, ending in December 2020.

Residents interested in applying for the vacant seat should contact Deputy City Clerk Ana Sauseda to schedule a time to meet with her and pick up an application packet. The submission deadline is Thursday, Sept. 26.

Mayor Jordan Ehrenkranz has appointed an Ad Hoc Committee consisting of Mayor Pro Tem Kasey Castillo and Councilman Jeremy Smith to review the applications and to move the most qualified applicants forward in the process. The chosen applicants will be invited to interview in front of the City Council at a special meeting on Monday, Oct. 7. The meeting will be open to the public.

It is anticipated that the City Council will vote to make the appointment immediately following interviews on Oct. 7. A majority vote of the remaining council members (3 out of 4) will be required in order for an appointment to be made. The chosen applicant will be sworn-in and seated on the Council that same evening.
