Linda and Hans Weg enjoyed a three-day trip to Laughlin and a one-day trip in Las Vegas where they visited their grandson Nolan, who is a registered nurse at Mountain View Hospital.
Laughlin greeted the couple with a 118-degree temperature. Hans didn’t have much luck gambling, but Linda hit a large jackpot that paid for most of their trip.
The couple took a side trip to Kingman, Arizona, where they ate at their favorite restaurant, Cracker Barrel. They also visited the Hackberry General Store. Originally a service station along Route 66, the Hackberry General Store is now a museum, gift shop and a collection of photo ops and Route 66 memorabilia.
“I remember stopping there in 1962 when my family and I drove Route 66 from Los Angeles to Chicago to visit friends of my parents,” Hans said. “It was in a 1955 Ford Station Wagon. What a trip, it was awesome to drive on Route 66 all of that way. So now whenever I’m close to a section of Route 66, I have to drive on it.”
