Chamber, Sports Stop to host Oktoberfest

The original Oktoberfest, held annually for two weeks in Munich, Germany, is the world’s largest Volkfests (beer festival and traveling fair). Fortunately, Canyon Lakers don’t have to travel to Munich to celebrate this annual German tradition.

Canyon Lake’s 9th annual Oktoberfest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 4 to 9 p.m. in the upper parking lot of the Towne Center.

Hosted by the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce and Sports Stop, this family-friendly event features live music by the American Bavarian Brass Band, traditional food, beer and wine, dancing, contests, vendors, kids zone with bounce house, face painting and a special appearance from Lake Elsinore Storm’s mascot Thunder.

Contests include Beer Drinking (non-alcoholic), Stein Holding, Hot Dog Eating and Jalapeno Eating. Contests are limited to the first 12 people who sign up. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Beer and wine tickets cost $5 each. A photo ID and wristband will be required for alcohol purchases. Commemorative mugs will be available for purchase for $5. Outside alcohol and coolers are not allowed.

Folks of all ages are invited to wear Bavarian costumes (lederhosens and dirndls), participate in the chicken dance and march in the Parade of Flags.

Non-food vendor spaces are available for $40 and can be reserved by contacting Alison Burrafato at the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce office at 951-244-6124 or canyonlakechamber@
outlook.com.
