AFV calls on public to help ‘Clear the Shelters’

Animal Friends of the Valleys is asking the public to help clear its shelter on Aug. 17.

NBC and Telemundo owned stations are teaming up with hundreds of shelters across the country to host the 5th annual Clear the Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption drive on Saturday, Aug. 17, to help find loving homes for animals in need. More than 250,000 pets found their “fur”ever homes since 2015.

Canyon Lake’s local animal shelter, Animal Friends of the Valleys, will be lowering its adoption fees for this one-day event.

Every year, millions of companion animals end up in shelters across the country. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, about 1.5 million animals are euthanized each year due to overcrowding.
