Reader contributions add interest to the paper

One of the things that sets The Friday Flyer apart from other local newspapers is the opportunity to receive story and photo contributions from those who live and work in the community. Readers may send information and photos to The Friday Flyer by e-mailing news@goldingpublications.com.

High-resolution photos should be attached to an e-mail as a .jpg file. The sender’s phone number should be included in the email. Deadlines are Mondays at 3 p.m.

Here is a list of ongoing features to which all residents are invited to contribute.

Photo of the Week

This weekly feature, appearing on page B-1, accepts photographs taken in the community that depict life in Canyon Lake. Photos of the Week should be .jpg files, horizontal and of high resolution.

Usually, the preferred photo is a lovely scene, local wildlife, unusual weather event, or a holiday-related picture of special interest. Sometimes the Photo of the Week will include pictures from a community-wide event for children or other special activity.

Out and About in Canyon Lake

Residents are encouraged to send pictures they take while out and about in Canyon Lake. When emailing from a smartphone, send the largest file possible and include a description of the photo and the first and last names of those in the picture.

Human Interest Stories

Every person has a story to tell – from unusual medical procedures to rebuilt classic cars to war experiences to an encounter with a celebrity to unusual hobbies or collections and more. It all makes for a more interesting community newspaper, so share it!

School News, Special Recognition

The Friday Flyer does not automatically receive press releases about events at local schools; nor is it notified about awards or special recognition received by students in areas of the arts, academics, sports, etc. The newspaper relies on parents or students to provide announcements and photographs. This is especially important for high school students toward the end of the academic year or the end of sports seasons.

Club News

Club news is reserved for the use of Canyon Lake clubs. Pictures are welcome and will be used as space and photo quality permit.

Where are They Now?

This feature is for parents or other caregivers of children who grew up in Canyon Lake, attended local schools, played school sports, or performed in band, chorus, theater, dance, mock trial, or other activities designed to help them find their niche in the world. Now, they’re all grown up and have moved away from home to attend college, explore the world, make a career and perhaps start their own families.

Anyone who has a child who grew up in Canyon Lake and is now living somewhere else and doing something that gives special pride is invited to share his or her story. “Then and now” pictures are encouraged.

Catch of the Day

Canyon Lake anglers are invited to share their fishing photos. The anglers first and last name, date and location the fish was caught and the type of bait used should be submitted with the photo.

Volunteer Spotlight

Do you know a volunteer who deserves recognition? Submit a photo of the volunteer along with a brief description of their volunteer work.

Letters to the Editor

Letters to the Editor are an opportunity for residents to voice opinions and comment on city, POA and other community issues. Letters are limited to 300 words and one signature per letter. Neighbor/customer disputes or testimonials, letters directed to other persons and political letters directed toward an opponent will not be printed.

Announcements

Residents are encouraged to share announcements of the special events in their lives, such as weddings, anniversaries, graduations, births and milestones.
