Meet and Greet held for CL city manager

Approximately 20 residents gathered at The Cup Above in the Towne Center on the morning of June 19 to have coffee and casual conversation with City Manager Chris Mann. The Meet and Greet was hosted by the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce and The Cup Above.

The informal event included a casual discussion with Q&A. Topics discussed included the city’s budget, contracts with the county for Sheriff’s Department and fire protection services, homelessness, the state’s low-income housing requirements and opportunities for economic development. Mann said the future of fire protection and EMS services in Canyon Lake were the topics attendees seemed most interested in.

Mann was appointed city manager in March. Although this is his first city manager post, he brings to Canyon Lake a wide breadth of experience, both in the public and private sectors. A former administrative analyst and deputy chief of staff for the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, Mann started in public service at a young age.

In 1999, at the age of 23, Mann was elected to the Westlake Village City Council. He was sworn in as mayor in December 2002. He also served on the San Gorgonio Pass Water Agency Board and on the Yucaipa Valley Board, where he was appointed president in January 2019.

Mann is responsible for the efficient administrations of all departments operating within the City of Canyon Lake, while providing overall direction to ensure that city policy is adhered to. He also oversees the functions of Human Resources and Risk Management, Economic Development, Communication, preparation of the Annual Operating Budget, all contract administration, state and federal grant processing and agenda processing and review for the City Council.
