Priscilla Circle to host PLAN luncheon June 22

Priscilla Circle is one of six circles at Canyon Lake Community Church. Approximately 30 women meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 9:30 a.m. in the Family Activities Building, for fellowship, friendship and outreach. The main ministry of this group is PLAN (Outreach to People Living Alone Now).

Three times a year, Priscilla ladies plan and provide a free luncheon for approximately 100 individuals who fall into the category of living alone, or with a relative or roommate, and who may or may not be members of the church. All are welcome.

The next PLAN luncheon will be held on Saturday, June 22, in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church, 30515 Railroad Canyon Rd. Doors open at 11 a.m. The program starts at 12 p.m.

The food will be chicken with salads, in a picnic atmosphere. Beautiful centerpieces have been designed by the decorating committee.

Sheila Ryker and her husband Vern will be performing five musical pieces, two of which Sheila has written. Sheila is a Priscilla member, as well as a talented pianist. Vern, who is deaf, plays the trombone. This will be a special treat for those in the audience.

Alice Gray, founder of Priscilla Circle and chair of PLAN luncheons for the past 10 years, is retiring this year. Although she will still be active in Priscilla Circle, this will be her last luncheon as chair. The new chair will be Lynda Ofstad.

To make a reservation, contact Joan Ellett at 951-941-0859 or Alice Gray at 951-244-4605.

The activities of Priscilla Circle, to love and support the lonely, do not end with the luncheons. The group has divided up more than 200 contacts among the members in teams of two or more women.

Throughout the year, PLAN members receive Christmas, Valentine, Easter and Thanksgiving cards from their Priscilla team.  Priscilla teams send birthday cards, make several calls during the year as reminders of the next luncheon and follow up as friends.

The Circle believes that by easing the loneliness of those who are elderly, have lost a spouse or caregiver, or who need a healthy meal with a yummy dessert, that it is doing the work they were called to do as followers of Jesus Christ.
