The Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild presented Canyon Lake resident James Alexander Myers with a $2,000 scholarship on May 18. The Temescal Canyon High School senior will be attending MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California, in the fall. He plans to pursue a career in acting and theatre.

The talented 17-year-old sings and plays the guitar, piano, bass and ukulele. He has been active in the TCHS Drama Club, Gaming Club and Marching Band.

James’ mentor is former Canyon Lake thespian Tara Miller Abell. “James is bright, energetic, optimistic and talented,” said Tara. “He is the rock of our Drama department, a team player and an outstanding role model.”

James has performed in several high school plays, including the lead role in “The Wizard of Flaws.” He also has performed in commercials, including one for Disney, and participated in the film “How to Be a Black Panther” by renowned director Daisy Zhou. James said he plans to use this scholarship award to help him to learn to be a better actor and a better person.

James is the son of Yajaira Myers and James Andera Myers. His father served a career in the U.S. Navy and now works for the federal government.
