National Police Week was May 12 through May 18. The week honors those in law enforcement who have died in the line of duty. Many Canyon Lakers show their support for law enforcement throughout the year by displaying a blue light on their homes, such as Travis and Valerie Montgomery.

The couple, who started displaying a blue light four years ago in support of law enforcement, encourage Canyon Lake residents to join with communities across the country in supporting law enforcement by displaying a blue light on their homes, especially those who live on one of the main thoroughfares.

“It would be great if Canyon Lake Dr. North and South, Vacation Dr. and Continental Dr. were blue corridors in honor the fallen and support those who make our lives safer each day,” said Travis.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.
