The Motels will be making their debut in Canyon Lake on Saturday, June 22, in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge. The new wave band is best known for their singles “Only the Lonely” and “Suddenly Last Summer,” each of which peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2018, the band released their new record “The Last Few Beautiful Days.”
Kenny Marquez will be opening the show. Kenny boasts a vast musical career, including lead guitarist of the 80s/90s rock band Renegade. Renegade is widely recognized as being the first Hispanic or “Chicano rock” band to gain acceptance in the United States. Throughout Latin America, the band is known as Los Renegados.
Marquez has performed at more than 500 venues in Southern California. “Audiences experience a wide range of music from classic rock and blues to modern alternative, easy listening and hit songs from all decades,” said concert promoter Doug Schultz. “Expect an energetic performance with plenty of crowd interaction.”
