Letters: National Day of Prayer

Editor, The Friday Flyer

The 7th annual National Day of Prayer took place on May 2, and the following pastors led prayers: Pastor Dave Dick, Canyon Lake Community Church; Pastor Chris Suitt, New Hope Community Church; Pastor Thor Ramsay, Center Church; and Pastor Buzzy Enniss of Lamb’s Fellowship. We thank them for their spiritual leadership.

Mayor Greene led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Councilman Jeremy Smith and Councilwoman Kasey Castillo offered prayers. Kasey also talked about the Blue Belles, an organization she founded and leads that helps families of fallen police officers.

We appreciate the address given by Chaplain Jason Gunnels, MARB.  Rabbi Steve Epstein, Temple B’nai Chaim and Sherry Reiter from the Torah Club also prayed with us. Michael Thomas of the Department of Defense gave a stirring homily.

Our soloist, Tabitha Webster, accompanied by Marvin Webster, and Harpist Kylene Evans lifted us up with beautiful music. The children of the CLCC Preschool prayed mightily via video under the leadership of CLCC Director Britanny Youngquist.

We would like to thank our sponsors, Platinum Plumbing for underwriting the continental breakfast. Members of the committee, Nancy and Ted Horton, Alice and Jack Gray, Linda and Cort Ofstad, Rebecca and Jack Watson, Mary and Paul LeGrice, Shirley and Marvin Webster, and Sherry Reiter also gave generous gifts. Michelle and Doug Gordon sponsored the Elsinore Jr. ROTC Flying Tigers.  Becky Watson made centerpieces for the speakers’ tables. The CL Lioness gave time and talent (Joanna Spiller) and the Homeowners Club provided flags and centerpieces.  Mike Shroyer donated his time as DJ and Lane McKellar served as emcee. We appreciate the printing of posters, brochures, tickets and programs by CLCC.  Next year, on the first Thursday of May, we will be back!
