Community observes 7th annual National Day of Prayer

Canyon Lake’s 7th annual National Day of Prayer was held on Thursday, May 2, in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge. Residents were able to attend at no charge this year thanks to the generosity of sponsors and the National Day of Prayer Committee.

The program began with a continental breakfast, followed by the Elsinore High School Flying Tiger Junior ROTC Color Guard, prayers, guest speakers and music featuring harpist Kylene Evans, soloist Tabitha Webster and accompanist Marvin Webster.

Lane McKellar served as emcee and DJ Mike Shroyer of Good Time Entertainment provided the sound.

Other participants included Canyon Lake Community Church, Center Church, New Hope Community Church, Lamb’s Fellowship, Canyon Lake Torah Club and Canyon Lake Community Church Preschool.

Mayor Larry Greene led the Pledge of Allegiance, Councilman Jeremy Smith led the prayer for the city and Councilwoman Kasey Castillo led the prayer for protectors, police, fire and EMT.

Guest speaker Michael Thomas of the Department of Defense gave an inspirational message and Chaplain Jason Gunnels spoke about the spiritual needs of military serving on MARB.

Event organizers include Canyon Lake Community Church, Canyon Lake Lioness Club and the National Day of Prayer Committee: Nancy Horton, chair; Joanna Spiller, treasurer; Lynda Ofstad, tickets; and members Shirley and Marvin Webster, Ted Horton, Alice and Jack Gray, Becky and Jack Watson, Cort Ofstad and Mary and Paul LeGrice.
