Eighty-one players participated in the annual Beautification Tournament on Apr. 27. Hosted by the Canyon Lake Association of Past Presidents (CLAPPS), this year’s tournament raised $7,700. All proceeds will be used for golf course beautification and improvement projects.
The winners are as follows:
Jack and Jill A Flight: 1st place: Mary and Greg Leathley; 2nd place: Donna Nunes and Barry Talbot; 3rd place: K.K. and Jesse Beecher.
Jack and Jill B Flight: 1st place: Eric Schrader and Linda Johnson; 2nd place: Linda and Brian Helmer; 3rd place: Ellie and Bob Clow.
Jack and Jack A Flight: 1st place: Greg Cunnington and Alan Spitalnick; 2nd place: Don Raworth and Ted Smykla; 3rd place: Dudley Thompson and Jim Chisholm.
Jack and Jack B Flight: 1st place: Ross Hanover and Jim Paulis; 2nd place: Van Meredith and Jim Whipple; 3rd place: Chuck Newsom and Carlos Ramirez.
Jill and Jill: Valerie Montgomery and Mary Burns.
Scramble: Larry Smith, Don Rasmussen, Alex Cook and James Strech.
The winners received gift certificates to the Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop. The tournament was followed by lunch, an opportunity drawing and an auction.
CLAPPS President Jim Magill thanks all of those who contributed to or participated in the tournament, especially the members of the CLAPPS who served on the Tournament Committee: Travis Montgomery, Gary Bradford, Joe Kamashian, Jim Lippen, Carlos Ramirez, Lou Smith, Dudley Thompson, Joe Washle, Chuck Newsom, Sam Theodora and Bill Levis.
The Beautification Tournament has raised more than $80,000 in past years for golf course improvements. Improvements include the street clock near the first tee, benches for tee boxes, bronze monument signs at each tee box and expansion of the practice putting green, to name a few. Future projects will take into consideration the redesign of the parking lot and entry, golf cart paths adjacent to the country club and the redesign of the lake surrounding hole 13.
