David R. Cervantes Sr., beloved husband, father and “Papa” drew his last breath Apr. 8, 2019, at the age of 72.

David was born on July 3, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, where he was raised by Joe and Helen Cervantes.

David grew up in East Los Angeles, Pico Rivera and in Montebello, California. He graduated from Saint Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs, California, where he was an All-American running back and track star for the Swordsmen.

Shortly after graduating from Saint Paul High in 1965, he married his first wife, Katherine, in 1967, and had three children.

David enlisted into the United States Air Force, where he proudly served and retired from the United States Air Force as a Senior Tech Sergeant. He served two tours in Vietnam, surviving Tet Offensive and two C-130 crash landings. He was honorably discharged after 15 years of active duty.

His days as a jet fighter mechanic helped him transition into construction supervision and management, where he worked along the side of his father and brothers, proudly completing such commercial buildings as Hard Rock Cafés, Marriott Hotels and numerous popular restaurants.

On May 29, 1988, he married his second wife, Susan, the love of his life. They shared 34 incredible years together and resided in Canyon Lake for 20 years.

David was an avid motorcyclist, boater and enjoyed a love for music as well as the outdoors. He was an advocate and volunteer for the “Wounded Warrior Project” and CALVET programs, assisting with homeless veterans receiving clothing and health services.

David leaves behind a loving family in his wife, Susan, his children David Jr. (and wife Gina), Christopher (and wife Renee) and Trisha. As well as grandchildren Brittany, Hannah and Gage and great-granddaughter Giana Genevieve, aka “Gigi.”

David was the life of the party and will be deeply missed. Our proud military family asks if you would like to donate to a cause, you may donate towards the Wounded Warrior Project in memory of David. Private services will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019, in Canyon Lake.
