Canyon Lake clubs offer scholarships to local students

Several Canyon Lake clubs are offering scholarship opportunities to local students. Students interested in applying for these scholarships are urged to do so now, deadlines are approaching.

9ers Golf Club

The Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club invites students to apply for its Student Athlete Scholarship. The scholarship is open to all student athletes who reside in Canyon Lake, maintained a 3.0 GPA and is actively involved in a team sport, school activities and community service. Applications are available at Temescal High School, Elsinore High School, Lakeside High School, Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop and by contacting Teresa Roberson at 310-741-0223 or trobers47@gmail.com. Applications are due Apr. 5. The scholarship will be awarded in May.

Fine Arts Guild

The Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild is offering a scholarship to a Canyon Lake senior who plans to pursue a career in the field of music or theater arts. Continuing education can be college, university or a related form of formal education. Applications are available on the club’s website at canyonlakeguild.org or by emailing Shari Skidmore at whales1986@hotmail.com. Applications also are available through high school counselors at Temescal Canyon High School, Elsinore High School, Lakeside High School, Santa Rosa Academy and Cornerstone Christian School. Applications are due Apr. 5. The scholarship will be awarded in May.

Yacht Club

The  Canyon Lake Yacht Club Scholarship Program is open to high school seniors who reside in Canyon Lake and attend a local high school. Applications are available in high school career centers. Woman’s Club

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club is offering scholarships to high school senior girls and women continuing their education. Applicants must reside in Canyon Lake. For applications, contact Terri Ireland at 703-473-7049. Applications are due Apr. 12.

Jr. Women’s Club

The Canyon Lake Jr. Women’s Club is offering scholarships to Canyon Lake high school seniors who plan to continue their education after graduation. Continuing education can be in the form of four-year or two-year universities, vocational schools, institutes and academies. Private school students are welcome to apply.

Applications are available through high school counselors at Temescal Canyon High School, Elsinore High School, Lakeside High School, Santa Rosa Academy and Cornerstone Christian School. Applications also are available on the club’s website at

Allen Memorial Scholarship

Canyon Lake residents Becky and Bobby Allen are offering a $1,500 scholarship to a Temescal Canyon High School student who will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall. The scholarship is in honor of Bobby’s brother, Andy Allen, who lost his life in a motorcycle accident in 2011. Andy was valedictorian at Temescal Canyon High School in 1997 and graduated Magna Cum Laude in mechanical engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2001. Choraleers

The Canyon Lake Choraleers $500 scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who are residents of Canyon Lake or related to a resident or member of the Choraleers. Applying students must be pursuing a higher education in a field related to music, music education, theater, dance, media arts, film or performing arts. The application can be downloaded at canyonlakechoraleers.org. Applications are due May 1.

The scholarship will be presented to the winning student during the Choraleers spring concert, “A Night at the Phantom of the Opera,” on Saturday, May 18, at 7 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge.

P.E.O. Chapter WW

P.E.O. Chapter WW is offering a scholarship for high school senior girls or women who are currently enrolled in college. If you have received a scholarship in the past, you are still eligible to apply. P.E.O. is an international philanthropic educational organization with a local chapter in Canyon Lake. Applications are available by email at canyonlakechapterww@gmail.com.
