Library’s reading program offers rewards

The library’s Cover to Cover reading program for children ages four to 12 kicked off on Mar. 2 and runs through Apr. 13. Participants can earn an achievement award for every five books read at reading level. The achievement award is good for a free hamburger or cheeseburger at any In-N-Out Burger. Children must signup for a reading log at the library to participate.

Children who are too young to read may participate by having books read to them by their parent or guardian. Children may receive up to three award certificates during the six-week program.

Miss Ginny’s Story Time, a program for children ages three to five, meets today at 11:30 a.m. The every other Friday program includes an interactive story read by Miss Ginny, live music and movement activities.

Toddler Story Time will meet on Monday, Mar. 25, at 11 a.m. The every Monday program provides stories and social experiences for children ages three and under. The program includes simple concepts and crafts to introduce new vocabulary and concepts. It provides opportunities for young children to use their growing vocabulary and experience social interaction with other children. The program includes a craft to make and take home.

Play Day will meet on Monday, Mar. 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The program includes music and movement, crafts, playtime and light snacks.

The Adult Book Club will meet on Monday, Mar. 25, at 4 p.m. The book selection for March is “Dark Matter” by Blake Crouch.

The Jr. Book Club for kids in grades fourth through seventh will meet on Mar. 27 at 4 p.m. The book selection for March is “The Maze of Bones,” by Rick Riordan.

The book clubs are open to new members. Copies of the monthly book selections are available at the front desk at the library.

The library’s Roots to Grow program offers free homework help for students. High school students earn volun-teer credit for assisting younger children in their studies. Students wishing to volunteer as a helper or coming for help should contact the library in advance to express their interest.

The library offers a free craft each month for visitors to make and take home. This month, the library celebrates Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a whimsical Dr. Seuss inspired craft.

The library’s Knitting and Crochet Crafters program meets on the first and third Fridays of each month from 1 to 4 p.m. The part social, part educational program is open to new members of all skill levels and loaner tools and supplies are available.

The library is located inside the City Hall building at 31516 Railroad Canyon Rd. and is open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is closed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
