The Canyon Little League got the season underway on Saturday with Opening Day ceremonies. Gault Field looked to be in tip-top shape despite all the rain this year. Canyon Lake Little League consists of 18 teams this year. There are four teams each in the T-Ball, Single A and Double A divisions, three Triple A teams, two Major teams and one 50/70 team.
Once all the teams were lined up on the perimeter of the infield, the festivities got underway. Thirteen-year-old Alexis Mosteller kicked off the day with the National Anthem. CLLL President Marcos Frias then took the field and announced the 2019 executive board members: Jason Cleveland, vice president; Melissa Gavin, secretary; Jennifer Ryan, treasurer and scholarships; and David Fruin, chief umpire.
After the board member introduction, the Canyon Lake 50/70 team met at the pitcher’s mound to recite the Little League Pledge. Canyon Lake Councilwoman Kasey Castillo threw out the first pitch. She threw a perfect strike to Jace Gutierrez from the Major League Reds team. The ceremony wrapped up with each team being announced and a brief trip around the bases.
The festivities continued throughout the day with vendors selling a variety of different items. Engine 60 from the Canyon Lake Fire Station was onsite. The kids seemed to have a ball crawling around the truck. The Lake Elsinore Storm mascot “Thunder” was also in attendance and, as usual, was a huge hit.
