Lions Club seeking unwanted eyeglasses

Got some extra eyewear? The Canyon Lake Lions Club is collecting new and used eyeglasses as part of a statewide effort to help those with vision problems. Members are asking residents to “give the gift of sight” by donating their unwanted eyeglasses. Donations of unwanted hearing aids and cell phones also are needed.

The Lions Club will have a collection table set up in front of Pack, Wrap and Post in the Towne Center on Saturday, Mar. 16,  between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The collected eyeglasses will be delivered to the regional Lions eyeglass recycling centers where volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package them. The recycled eyeglasses are then distributed to people in need in the United States and in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.

Residents who can’t make it to the drop off location on Mar. 16 are asked to place their unwanted eyeglasses in the Lions Club donation boxes located at the country club and at Pack, Wrap and Post. Eyeglasses may also be mailed to Lions Clubs International Headquarters Receiving Department, 300 W. 22nd St., Oak Brook, Illinois, 60523.

Eyeglasses can change another person’s life. Glasses can help a senior maintain their independence, an adult succeed in their job and a child read. For more information about Lions Recycle for Sight, visit lionseyes.org or californialionsfriendsinsight.org.
