The streets of Old Town Temecula were roaring on Mar. 1 for the Rod Run, an annual event that draws hundreds of classic vehicles and thousands of spectators and automotive enthusiasts.

The two-day event kicked off with the popular “Friday Night Cruise” through the streets. The cruise was followed by the Show and Shine Car Show on Saturday where spectators could get an up-close and personal look at the classic cars and hot rods. More than 550 cars registered for the show but hundreds canceled due to rain.

Several Canyon Lakers were among the classic car owners vying for awards. Mike Shroyer won an Award of Excellence in the 1940 to 1949 Stock category for his 1940 Plymouth Roadking.

Paul Kakis won an Award of Excellence in the 1940 to 1949 Hot Rod category for his orange custom 1948 Ford Coupe.
