CLMS competition cheer team wins first place

The Canyon Lake Middle School competition cheer team competed at the CHEERpros California State Championships on Jan. 19 at the Orange County Fairgrounds Event Center where they took first place in the Jr. High Show Cheer division. After earning the highest score, CLMS was named Grand Champions. This is the second consecutive year the team defended their division title and won Grand Champions.

After having an undefeated 2017-2018 season and winning both the USA Jr. Nationals and CHEERpros State Championships, the team’s goal was to have another undefeated cheer season.

CLMS competed in December at the USA Regional Competition in Irvine where they placed first and qualified for USA Jr. Nationals. They also placed first at the NCA & NDA SoCal Regional Championships on Dec. 12. They took home the Overall Regional Champion award for having the highest score out of all the teams, including the high school teams. The girls were awarded pennants for Best Use of Tumbling and Best Use of Jumps.

The team has two more upcoming competitions in February and then will end the competition season at USA Jr. Nationals in Anaheim on Feb. 23 and 24. Coach Tammy Howard said the team is looking forward to the opportunity to reclaim the USA Jr. Nationals title again this year.
