Marlene “Molly” Evans, 85, a Canyon Lake resident for more than 30 years, passed away on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, surrounded by her family. Molly was an active member of the Senior Committee and an Olympic gold medal winner, more than once, with the Canyon Lake Chair Volleyball team. She enjoyed being a part of Ladies of the Lake as well.

As a young mother of three from Ohio, Molly survived domestic violence. After moving to California, she became a single mother, working as a secretary to raise her children and retiring when she reached retirement age. During that time, she met the love of her life, Bill Evans, Sr. at the Band Box in Big Bear when he asked her to dance. They continued to dance through 40 years of marriage together, until his death on Thanksgiving Day 2014. They are finally dancing together again! Praise God!

Molly leaves behind her son Mike Hale of Spooner, Wisconsin; her two daughters, Linda Welz of Temescal Valley, California, and Wendy Holmer of Sulphur Springs, Ohio; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by her older sister Mary Cornellison of Vista, California; younger brother Don Burrer of Chowchilla, California; and younger sisters, Peggy Sperry of Fresno, California, Ginger Frank of Monument, Colorado and Judi Sellers of Canyon Lake. Molly was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Mary Burrer and her brothers Jim and Glenn Burrer.

Molly is remembered as a lover of life, seeing the bright side of things but speaking her mind when she felt it necessary. She collected thimbles, frogs and hummingbirds. Her favorite place was Maui. She loved celebrating holidays by dressing up and decorating. Molly loved to dance and shop. She had a sweet tooth and often ate dessert first. She was a bit shy, but a solid friend to those who knew her well. She loved flowers, especially the red roses she often got from Bill. Molly was a blessing to us and truly loved by all. She will be greatly missed.

Her Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at 10 a.m. at the Canyon Lake Community Church chapel, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.

All who knew her are invited to attend. Be comfortable and please wear something blue, her favorite color, or a Hawaiian print.
