Cookies with Santa

Enjoy cookies and hot chocolate with Santa tomorrow, Dec. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station 97, 41725 Rosetta Canyon Drive. Bring your camera and take photos with Santa, create ornaments with Target, enjoy hot chocolate and decorate holiday cookies. Tickets are $5 per person and must be purchased prior to the event at lake-elsinore.org/specialevents. Tickets will not be available at the fire station. For more information, call 951-245-0442.

Gingerbread Night

Lamb’s Fellowship Church, 21901 Railroad Canyon Rd., Lake Elsinore, is hosting a Gingerbread Night tonight, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. Houses will be supplied; guests bring their own decorations. Prizes will be awarded for Most Creative, Most Delicious Looking, Tallest House and Judges’ Choice.

Holiday Open House

Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez invites the community to her Holiday Open House and Toy Drive on Dec. 18 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Lake Elsinore Storm Diamond Stadium, 500 Diamond Dr., Lake Elsinore.

Menifee Historical Museum

The Menifee Valley Historical Museum will be closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 30. Instead of the regular program in January, a field trip is planned on Jan. 19 to the Historic Patterson House in Winchester.

The Menifee Valley Historial Museum contains displays about Canyon Lake history, provided by Canyon Lake pioneers, Don and Elinor Martin, who sometimes serve as docents. The museum is located in the old Menifee Elementary School on Garbani Rd. and is open on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, visit menifeehistory.com or call 951-708-6842.

Itty Bitty T-Ball

Itty Bitty T-Ball, sponsored by the Temescal Canyon Baseball Booster Club, is for kids ages two to five years old. Registration is $95 and includes a seven-week season, shirt and cap, photos and participation medal. Early bird registration opened Dec. 1 at tchsbaseball.org. In-person registration will be held on Jan. 13, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Temescal Canyon High School, 28755 El Toro Rd., Lake Elsinore. Opening Day is Jan. 27. P.E.O Scholarships

P.E.O., a philanthropic organization devoted to the educational advancement of women through scholarships, grants, awards and loans, is offering scholarship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate California women studying in a variety of fields including but not limited to health care, education, music, fine arts and the legal profession.

Genealogy Research

The Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society (LEGS) Business and Program meetings are held monthly on the second Thursday of each month, except July and August, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lakeland Village Community Center, 16275 Grand Ave., Lake Elsinore. Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery is a program that teaches and gives one tools on how to address their hurts, habits, and hang-ups so that they can move forward and find their purpose and a life filled with joy. Participants discover that they are not alone in what they are going through and find people to walk alongside them.

Celebrate Recovery meets every Sunday at 6 p.m. in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church. They offer Celebrate Recovery (recovery for adults 18+); The Landing (recovery for teens); Celebration Place (recovery for kids); and free childcare. A potluck is held at on the first Sunday of each month at 5 p.m. For more information, contact Marianne at 951-244-1877, ext. 209.

Caregivers Connection

Caregivers Connection is an outreach for those caring for a loved one with dementia, Alzheimer’s and other diseases of the aging. Twice a month, on the first and third Mondays, JoAnn Wickerath and Bev Haney lead a group with informational talks, videos and fellowship. This is a great opportunity to speak with other caregivers and share information, tips and experiences. Meetings are held at Canyon Lake Community Church in Building C. Attendees are asked to refrain from using perfume at the meetings as there are those who are allergic to the chemicals in perfume. Expressive Art Class

Michelle’s Place, a breast cancer resource center serving Canyon Lake and surrounding area, hosts a free Expressive Art Class every other Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The class uses art as a form of therapy and self-exploration. Sessions help to practice creativity while opening the door to calming strategies and awareness techniques. Participants gain a better insight of themselves through sharing feelings and exploring a host of topics with group dialogue and discussion. It’s part art, part relaxing, part “therapy,” part discussion and a positive diversion for anyone. No reservations, fees or art experience required. For dates and times, visit michellesplace.org.

Lioness Bingo Fundraiser

Sponsored by the Canyon Lake Lioness Club, bingo is held at the Canyon Lake Senior Center on the first and third Sunday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m. Due to State Law, players must be 18 or older to play. Admission is $10 per six-sheet set; special games are available for $1 each. Those wishing to attend from outside the community should call Nancy Coughlin at 951-805-0543 or Joanna Spiller at 951-244-1553 for gate entrance.

Farmers Market

The Canyon Lake Farmers Market operates every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upper section of the Towne Center parking lot.

Bereavement Support

Grief Share typically meets in the chapel at Canyon Lake Community Church on Mondays at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Pastor Pete at 951-244-1877, ext. 204.

Needlework Group

Canyon Lakers are invited to bring their knitting and crocheting supplies and projects to the Canyon Lake Senior Center on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information, contact Betty Cannavino at 951-244-4126.

MOPS

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) meets on the first and third Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at Canyon Lake Community Church. MOPS seeks to support mothers during the early years of their children’s lives. By connecting with other moms and mentor moms, craft projects and guest speakers, women are encouraged in their physical, emotional and spiritual journeys. Childcare is provided.

The moms fellowship over hot coffee and a warm breakfast, then enjoy a speaker or craft. Those desiring “coffee talk” are invited to contact Karla Holenbeck at 951-317-6803.

CLAWS Bunco

Canyon Lake women are invited to attend the Canyon Lake Association of Women (CLAWS) group bunco on the second Wednesday of the month at 3 p.m. in the Magnolia Room at the country club. Sewing, Quilting Group

Residents are invited to the senior center for sewing and quilting on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a project and sewing machine, or just visit and check it out. For more information, contact Terri Ireland at 951-246-2571.

Chronic Illness Support

The Chronic Illness Support Group meets on the first Monday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Canyon Lake Senior Center. All ages are welcome to attend. The group provides the opportunity to share and receive support from others who have chronic conditions, whether from illness or physical issues. Steering Wheel Covers

The Canyon Lake Lioness Club offers custom-made steering wheel covers made of many different materials and patterns that keep steering wheels from becoming too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Breast Cancer Resources

Bosom Buddies is a breast cancer support group in Canyon Lake led by Janelle Basham and Kimberly Slingerland. The pair mentor, educate and support newly diagnosed breast cancer patients during their journey. For more information, visit clbosombuddies.com.

Michelle’s Place, 27645 Jefferson Ave., Ste. 117, Temecula, is a breast cancer resource center serving Canyon Lake and surrounding areas. The center’s mission is to provide emotional and educational support to those touched with breast cancer and facilitate breast health care services. Women’s Circles

Women’s Circles are small groups of women who meet once a month in each other’s homes or in Building C at Canyon Lake Community Church. They pray and support missionaries and pray for and encourage one another. Being a member of a Women’s Circle provides an opportunity for small group fellowship. Faith Circle meets the third Monday at 7 p.m.; Julia Circle meets the second Monday at 10:30 a.m.; Priscilla Circle meets the first Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.; Sonshine Circle meets the third Monday at 9:30 a.m.; Sunset Circle meets the second Sunday at 5:30 p.m.; Love Circle meets the second Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. For more information about the Women’s Circles, contact Circle Coordinator Phyllis Duncan at 951-674-4436.

Quilt Show

The Valley Quilters Guild 38th annual Quilt Show will be held on Feb. 8 and 9, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Valley-Wide Recreation Center, 901 West Esplanade, San Jacinto.
