Community gathers for annual Golf Cart Parade

Residents lined Canyon Lake Drive on Sunday evening for the 8th annual Golf Cart Parade and Toy Drive hosted by the Street Carts of Canyon Lake. According to organizer Mike Shroyer, 150 carts participated and more than 200 toys were collected for the Toy Drive.

The parade started at Blue Bird Drive at 5:30 p.m. and traveled down Canyon Lake Drive to East Port Park where everyone gathered for an end of parade party that featured free cookies and hot chocolate, food for purchase, holiday music and presentation of awards.

The Minion-themed golf cart driven Michael and Angie Bazaldua won the Clark Griswold award.

The Best Lights winners are Craig and Tricia Brown (boat), Kym and Lee West (Christmas Day with Santa) and Nancy and Ted Horton (butterfly).

The Best Theme winners are Paul and Terry Leone (Grinch), Daryl and Mickey France (Christmas Story) and Debra and Ruben Gonzalez (Steamboat Willie).

The Traditional winners are Lanie Cooney and Rob Mora (Santa), Kenneth Cole Blossel (Santa/snowman) and Joe Bein (Thomas the Train).

The Most Outrageous winners are Bryan and Vicki Warren (snowman) and Michele and Tyson Mrosek (Grinch).

All the winners were presented with a Nutcracker award.

Street Carts of Canyon Lake President and Parade Organizer Mike Shroyer would like to thank the community and the participants who helped to make this event a success. He also extends a thank you to the POA staff and Community Patrol for their assistance.

The Toy Drive box will be at the lodge until Dec. 17 for anyone who would like to drop off a toy.
