Kids invited to free programs at Library

The Canyon Lake Library will be open regular hours in December with the exception of Dec. 24 and 31. The closure has caused the end of the month Monday programs of Play Day and Adult Book Club to move forward to Dec. 17 and the Wednesday Junior Book Club to Dec. 19.

The Dec. 17 Play Day program will start at 10 a.m. with the Movin’ n Music part of the program starting at 11:30. The change was made to accommodate scheduling with the advanced date. This program is both social and educational. Parents have an opportunity to meet and greet other parents of similar aged children. The children have an opportunity to do fun things while meeting, sharing and cooperating with other children.

There is an opportunity drawing for the adults, made possible by Typhanie Sharfner a MomCo hostess and originator of mentoringtinyhumans.com. Typhanie also designs and supplies materials for the make and take home a craft for the Play Day program.

The Adult and Junior Book Clubs have special plans for December. The Adult Book Club will meet on Monday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m. The club is reading “Skipping Christmas” by John Grisham and will be viewing the movie adaptation of the book, “Christmas with the Kranks.” A potluck and bookmark exchange also is planned.

The Junior Book Club will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 4 p.m. A holiday party is planned. Participants should contact the library for details prior to the meeting.

The library is hosting a holiday family craft Dec. 10 through Dec. 15. During open library hours, a maker table will be available with materials for three separate ornament crafts.

Roots to Grow Tutoring will be available on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. this month, including the Saturday between Christmas and New Years. Children taking advantage of the program should be prepared with any needed tools and a way to communicate to the tutors what they need help with. If a computer is required a USB drive is recommended to save work.

Miss Ginny’s Story Time program will be held the week between Christmas and New Years. The every-other Friday program will be held at 11:30 on Dec. 14 and Dec. 28. The program is developed for children ages three to five years old. It differs from Toddler Story Time in the expectations of attention, following directions, motor skills for the craft and movement portion of the program. Children of other ages may attend and parents will be in the room with the children.

Toddler Story Time for ages three and under will meet at 11 a.m. on Dec. 3, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17.  The Library will be closed the remaining two Mondays in December. The program includes stories, opportunities to interact and a craft to make and take home.

The library will be adding some new programs in January, including a four-week Knitting and Crochet program and a four-week Tech for Seniors program that will cover iPads, Aandroids, Windows 10 and scams.

Library programs are free to the community thanks to the support of the Canyon Lake Friends of the Library and the City of Canyon Lake.
