Letter: Election Day

Editor, The Friday Flyer

I was shopping the other day and someone walked up to me and said, “Excuse me, aren’t you from Canyon Lake?” We started talking about Canyon Lake and all that’s good about it. She’s a recent transplant from Escondido, has been here “just under 3 years” and loves it (of course). Talk turned to politics, naturally, and she asked me a lot of questions, some about Measure S, some about the candidates and some about the differences between POA and the city. We even talked about the race for governor and Prop 6.

We didn’t agree on everything but we had a nice give-and-take and she made some good points. Then she asked me if I expect a good turnout at the polls and all I could say was “I sure hope so.” She said she’ll be voting but some of her friends “just aren’t feeling it.” What a shame. If her friends are anything like her, intelligent, pleasant, alert and opinionated, it would be a true loss if they didn’t vote. I hope everyone exercises their privilege on Nov. 6.

It’s a great American asset, this right to decide our own fate. Large or small, every race is important and even one vote truly can make a difference. So please get out there and make those choices. You know I’ll be there because oh yeah, I’m definitely feeling it. Thank you.

Vicki Warren
Mayor, City of Canyon Lake
