Letter: Candidate Dale Welty

Editor, The Friday Flyer

Dale Welty is running for District 1 seat on Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District. He has lived in Canyon Lake for 27 years and has been involved in many activities, mostly to improve our quality of life and provide youth with worthwhile activities for growth. He has served on the POA Board and as liaison to the Recreation and Finance Committees. He regularly attends City Council meetings. He boats on the lake and has attended many meetings locally and in Riverside, so he has a good understanding of the challenges we face in reducing phosphorus, nitrogen, chlorophyll A and increasing dissolved oxygen in Canyon Lake.

Dale has attended many EVMWD meetings, including study sessions and board meetings. He is up to date on board decisions, such as well maintenance, reliance on imported water, water and sewer rates, operations activities, water supply plans for the future and financial reports. Dale will always be available and he’s very approachable and interested in people’s concerns.

What we need in a board member is someone devoted to our community, lake and concerns as rate-payers. Solving our problems involves approval of our local governing body, the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board. The SARWQCB has approved alum treatments, and when the first grant funding was used up, required the Total Maximum Daily Load Task Force to continue alum treatments because of their effective control of phosphorus. Fortunately, Canyon Lake reached the reduction target in 2017 and continues to improve.

We expect our board members to be responsive to us, make wise decisions based on the best interests of our rate payers and to represent us at board meetings. He is a known quantity and has been endorsed by local leaders who respect and admire him. Vote for Dale Welty for District 1 EVMWD.
