City of CL to honor veterans with celebration

Canyon Lake’s 10th annual Veterans Day Celebration is an opportunity for residents to pause and honor the sacrifices of those who have served in the U.S. military and recognize the dedication of those who continue to serve.

Hosted by the City of Canyon Lake and the Canyon Lake Veterans Day Committee, the 10th Veterans Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, in the Towne Center. The celebration kicks off at 10 a.m. followed by a flyover by the Warbirds West at 10:15 a.m.

Mayor Vicki Warren will be emceeing this year’s celebration. Music will be provided by Mike Shroyer of Good Time Entertainment. Three-year-old Canyon Laker Tegan Perry will sing the National Anthem. Veteran and Canyon Lake resident Adam McNaughton will recite the poem “Old Glory.”

The Canyon Lake Choraleers will lead the crowd in singing the service anthems for each military branch. As in past years, veterans of all five service branches will be encouraged to stand during the singing of their service anthems. Elsinore High School Flying Tiger Jr. ROTC will post the colors. Local Boy Scouts will be passing out the programs and flags again this year.

One rose for each Canyon Lake veteran who passed away this year will be placed in the urn next to the monument along with an extra rose for the unknown veterans. A floral wreath will be placed at the monument and will remain there for a week. The names of the veterans on the Field of Honor flags in the Veterans Memorial Park will be announced.

The Canyon Lake Quilters will raffle off a “Quilts of Valor” quilt. The drawing is free and limited to veterans.

The POA will serve light refreshments and coffee prior to the start of the ceremony. Hot dogs will be served after the ceremony compliments of the Canyon Lake Market and Coldwell Banker.Those who wish to make a donation to this event should contact Canyon Lake City Hall.
