Letters: Measure S

Editor, The Friday Flyer

As many Friday Flyer readers are aware, Measure S is on the Canyon Lake local Nov. 6, 2018, ballot. I am writing today specifically about one component of Measure S that is critical to the health and safety of Canyon Lake residents: maintaining rapid emergency response services.

As a retired firefighter and 24-year Canyon Lake resident, I know personally that lives and homes are saved when emergency services are administered in a timely manner, without undue delay. If renewed, Measure S would help maintain funding for life safety services and rapid emergency response times. This existing, voter-approved funding helped to re-open (and now keeps open) Fire Station 60, which is vital to our quality of life and safety.

On the Nov. 6 ballot, voters in Canyon Lake will rightfully get to weigh in on renewing Measure S, a locally-enacted 3.95 percent utility users tax (UUT). Measure S will help ensure property and lives are safer without an increase in tax rates. Measure S will continue to require fiscal accountability provisions including independent annual audits that keep city spending efficient and transparent.

I encourage Canyon Lake residents to get the facts about Measure S and public safety.  You can learn more at cityofcanyonlake.org.
