In Memoriam

Shirley A. (Falbo) Gero
Dec. 1, 1937 – Aug. 10, 2018

Shirley A. (Falbo) Gero passed peacefully on Aug. 10, 2018. She was born

Dec. 1, 1937, in Centerville Borough, PA. She was raised in Canton, OH,

and most recently was enjoying her life in Laguna Woods, CA. Shirley was

a longtime resident of Canyon Lake, until she moved in 2017.

While a student at Defiance College, she was awarded the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award. She used her accounting talents to the benefit of the Finance Committee for the Catholic community of Columbus, IN, when she lived there, and functioned as CFO of her household throughout her life.

Shirley loved to get involved and give back to her community, whether it was heading up the neighborhood efforts for a charity, volunteering for projects to beautify her community, serving as bridge director in local bridge games, or delivering plates of her homemade cookies at Christmas to her friends, neighbors, colleagues and priests.

She also enjoyed coaching college football and basketball from the comfort of her living room, as well as delivering color commentary on her favorite players. She was a Silver Life Master at bridge.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, and favorite bridge partner, Delmar W. Gero, to whom she had been married 53 years. In retirement, Shirley and Del enjoyed playing and teaching bridge and taking road trips and cruises, and would often combine bridge and travel.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and six siblings: Anthony, May, Rose, Emelia, Mary and Richard. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah A. Gero of Santa Monica, CA, as well as cherished nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shirley and Delmar Memorial Scholarship Fund at Defiance College. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newport Beach, CA.
