You’re a good man, Charlie Brown

Canyon Lake Community Theatre will present the adventures of the Peanuts gang in the all kids production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” this weekend in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge.

The production is a fresh approach to the all-time 1967 classic, based on the beloved comic strip by Charles Schultz. The musical comedy is perfect for the entire family.

“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” is a crowd-pleasing classic with the adventures of the Peanuts gang spanning the months from Valentine’s Day to Beethoven Day in the form of brief vignettes.

Charlie Brown and the gang will delightfully sing and dance their way into your heart with such classic songs as Snoopy’s “Suppertime,” as well as updated new scores. The audience will hear about Sally’s new “Philosophy” and how Schroeder celebrates “Beethoven Day.”

The curtains will rise this weekend on the following dates and times: July 27 at 7 p.m., July 28 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and July 29 at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the POA office, at the door or by calling 951-821-6767. Reserved tickets are $18; general admission $15, students and seniors (65 and up) are $12 and $10 for children under 12.

Canyon Lake Community Theatre has been offering all kids summer productions for 18 years with the help of adult and youth volunteers. Canyon Lake Community Theatre gives children the opportunity to participate in theatre arts which are currently limited in public schools. All of the children and teens in this play have not yet entered High School.

This annual show also affords high schooler students the opportunity to learn the backstage and directorial aspects of putting on a show. A number of young people who performed in past years have returned to help put on “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown,” including Makenna Diegelman who is the vocal director this year.

“Participating in these shows each year has made my daughter comfortable speaking and performing in front of a crowd,” said Producer Heather Gotoski. “My daughter has gained confidence and self-esteem through being a part of this amazing program.”

Leslie Vecchione, a drama teacher at both Elisnore High School and Canyon Lake Middle Schoo, has returned this year to direct the children. Assisting her as director of choreography is Stephanie Vecchione. This summer, Leslie has also been assisted by Producer Arlette Frederick and Producer Heather Gotoski.

The “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” cast is as follows:
