Mermaid Festival makes a splash at Indian Beach

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club hosted its 4th annual Mermaid Festival on Saturday, June 23, at Indian Beach. The community-wide event featured a Cardboard Boat Race, Pirate Ship Battle courtesy of the Canyon Lake Yacht Club, vendors, Mermaid Lounge, food, kids zone, contests, opportunity drawing and grand prize drawing.

Local entertainer Aprile DeAnne emceed the event.

Jennifer Wilson and Tiffany Paul placed first in the Cardboard Boat Race adult division. Emma Baldwin and Tiffany McCargo placed first in the youth division. The Judges Choice award went to Cameron Johnson. Kenneth Cole won the Best Dressed Boat award.

In the grand prize drawing, Adena Evans won the Aqua Lily Pad. Mike Cook won the kayak. Anne Norris, Addison Portillo and Logan Curcie each won $100 cash.

Max Triolo was named Best Dressed Little Pirate. Samantha Triolo took first place in the Best Dressed Little Mermaid Contest. Adriana Andreas won the Beautiful Mermaid Contest. The Knobby Knees award went to Ron Barnes.

Founded in 1972, the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club is a non-profit, non-partisan, philanthropic service organization. In 2017, the club donated $15,000 in scholarships and $16,000 to local charities. This year, the club will gave  away more than $40,000 to local charities and in the form of student scholarships.
