9ers Golf Club awards student scholarships

Baylee Barckley and Isabella Hanson each received a $2000 scholarship presented by the Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club. The 9ers presented both girls with their scholarships during the club’s annual Progressive Dinner on May 30.

The 9ers Golf Club is the only golf club in Canyon Lake that awards scholarships. These scholarships are open to graduating seniors or continuing college students who reside in Canyon Lake and have played golf during their school years. Students filled out an application and submitted an essay on “Lessons I have learned from golf,” along with two letters of recommendation, transcripts verifying a GPA of 3.0 or higher and a letter of acceptance to the college or university they plan to attend/continue to attend.

Isabella Hanson is graduating this year from Murrieta Mesa High School with a 4.1 GPA and is scheduled to attend the University of San Diego in the fall.  She has enrolled in the school’s  Department of Pre-Health and plans to pursue a career as a nurse anesthetist.

Isabella has been a leader in student government, a member of the varsity girls golf team for four years (team captain for the past two years), a scholar-athlete for four consecutive years, as well as finding the time to be involved with the Boys an Girls Club Special Olympics.

Baylee Barckley is entering her senior year at the University of Montana. Baylee was an honors graduate at Temescal Canyon High School and an MVP of the Temescal Canyon Golf Team for four years. She also served as captain the past two years.

These high achievements continued in college as Baylee has been on the Dean’s List as well as the University of Montana golf team. She has posted three Top 5 place wins and served as captain. Baylee’s grandpa gave Baylee a golf club growing up and told her to “grip it and rip it.” She certainly did and today is able to hit drives an astonishing 300 yards.

“Both girls have established exceptional records of accomplishment and are very deserving of these scholarships,” said Sheryl Fine of the 9ers Golf Club. “The Canyon Lake 9ers wish to thank all of those who contributed to this year’s scholarships. The club looks forward to the outstanding girls and boys from Canyon Lake who will be applying for scholarships next year.”
