Catch of the Day

Anticipating a crowd on Saturday at Sunset Beach for Fiesta Day last week, Janet Stephens took advantage of fishing on the calm lake on Friday. She was fishing at Sunset Beach and near the tennis courts when she caught a few bass. Two of them weighed three pounds, one weighed four pounds.

“I used my favorite craw, set up Texas rig style, on all my catches,” said Janet. “I tried a few other plastics but didn’t get any bites, so I changed back to my favorite craw.”

Janet runs the Facebook group Canyon Lake Bass Babes and invites other lady anglers to the group who wish to share photos of their catches. You can see more of Janet’s catches on Instagram at zbassbabe.

Sal Gervasi and his friend Neil Sterud caught 20 fish in six hours last week. The biggest weighing approximately five pounds. “The bite was pretty good,” said Sal. The anglers caught most of them using plastic lures on a couple of swimbaits.

Neil was visiting from Northern California to help Sal with the Junior State Finals.

Sal is a member of the Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club and invites other anglers who like to fish or want to improve their fishing skills in a low stress, friendly competitive environment to join the club.

The Bassmasters meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Magnolia Room at the country club. Monthly tournaments are held on the first Saturday of each month. For more information about membership, call Terry Voss at 951-536-9341.
