Here’s what’s happening at the library in May

One World Rhythm and the Canyon Lake Library celebrated the Day of the Child with loud enthusiasm on Monday. The program included clapping, stomping, using tuned Boomwackers, and drums. The 45-minute program had everyone parading wrapped in rhythm and at one point parading around the room.

Tutoring for students is held on Saturdays at 10 a.m. The Wednesday tutoring has been suspended for the time being. Adult computer help and tutoring will continue on an appointment basis. Adults interested in computer help or adult tutoring help may inquire at the library and a mutually convenient time will be arranged.

Race to Story Time: All About Horses, is the theme for Miss Ginny’s Story Time on May 5. This event will feature a horse race, stories, music and a related craft to make and take home.

Alexander McCall Smith’s book “My Italian Bulldozer” is the Canyon Lake Adult Book Club’s May read. The club, which typically meets on the last Monday of the month, is meeting on May 21 this month due to the Memorial Day Holiday.

The club reads the same book then meets to discuss a list of questions provided before the meeting. This format allows consideration of the issues while reading.  Anyone interested in joining the group may get a copy from the library prior to the meeting and arrangements can be made to email the questions to the new members.

The Friends of the Canyon Lake Library will be holding its Buck-A-Bag Book Sale from May 19 to May 26. Customers may purchase a bag of books for only $1. There is no limit to the number of bags an individual may purchase. The sale will have puzzles and other items in addition to books, movies and music.

All items in the sale have been donated by the community.  The shelves will be restocked daily with new items while supplies last. Donations for the sale are being accepted. Books, audiobooks, magazines, music, CDs and DVDs are welcomed. The Library does not accept older textbooks and encyclopedias. The proceeds go toward the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library’s events, programs and materials.
