‘100 Women Strong’ raise money for charities

Local women are invited to the 5th annual “100 Women Strong” fundraiser luncheon on Sunday, May 6, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 22344 Boating Way, Canyon Lake. Admission is $22 plus a $100 donation.

Canyon Lakers Liz Murphy, Becky Ness and Debra Kipp formed “100 Women Strong” in 2014. Their idea is simple: 100 women would donate $100 each to local charities in need. Their mission is to inspire change.

“100 Women Strong” has raised more than $40,000 over the past four years. The Lions Club Bike Project, Calvary Canyon Hills Food Pantry, The Center 4 Life Change, Helping Hands Group and Hope Learning Academy are a few of the organizations that have benefited from the “100 Women Strong” fundraisers.

At this year’s luncheon, attendees will hear presentations from four local organizations that directly impact the local community. At the end of the presentations, attendees will have an opportunity to talk with the presenters and learn more about each organization before making a choice of which charity they want to donate their $100 to.

The $100 donation may be given to one organization or be split among two, three or all four of the organizations. “Some women choose to give $25 to each of the four charities, others give their $100 to one charity,” said Liz. “Donations are made directly to the presenting organizations and it’s up to each woman on how they would like to donate their $100.”

The organizations are nominated by members of the group in March. A committee selects four organizations from the list of nominations. The selected organizations are announced at the luncheon.
