Lions Club collection gives others gift of sight

The Canyon Lake Lions Club set up a table in front Pack Wrap & Post last weekend to collect unwanted eyeglasses as part of a statewide effort to help those with vision problems. The club also collected unwanted hearing aids and cell phones.

Residents donated more than 350 pairs of eyeglasses. “The club would like to thank those who donated to help give others the gift of sight,” said club Secretary LaRue McNamara.

The collected eyeglasses will be delivered to the regional Lions eyeglass recycling centers where volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. The recycled glasses will then be distributed to people in need in California and developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.

Residents who wish to donated unwanted eyeglasses can place them in the donation boxes located at the county club and at Pack, Wrap and Post or package and mail to Lions Clubs International Headquarters Receiving Department, 300 W. 22nd St., Oak Brook, Illinois, 60523.
