Eight clubs offer scholarships to CL students

The following seven clubs are offering student scholarships. Several of the application deadlines are approaching, so students who wish to apply must act fast.

Yacht Club

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club scholarships are open to high school seniors who reside in Canyon Lake and attend a local high school. Applications are available in local high school career centers. Applications are due by Apr. 5. For more information, contact Canyon Lake Yacht Club Scholarship Chair Karen Doherty at ladydoherty@yahoo.com.

9ers Golf Club

The Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club invites Canyon Lake seniors, regardless of the school they attend, to apply for a scholarship. Students will need to fill out an application and submit an essay on “Lessons I have learned from golf,” provide two letters of recommendation, transcripts verifying a GPA of 3.0 or higher and a letter of acceptance to the college or university they plan to attend.

Applications are due Apr. 9 and will be awarded in May. Applications are available at the Temescal Canyon High School counseling office and the Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop. Woman’s Club

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club is again offering scholarships to Canyon Lake high school senior girls and Canyon Lake women who are pursuing continuing education. Information and applications are available at high school career centers, on the Woman’s Club website at canyonlakewomansclub.com, or by contacting Dee Zasio at 951-244-0123. Applications are due Apr. 13.

Last year, the Woman’s Club awarded a total of $15,000 to 10 Canyon Lake students. Since 1995, the club has awarded more than $200,000 in student scholarships and more than $57,000 to continuing education students.

Jr. Women’s Club

The Jr. Women’s Club, a philanthropic group of women whose primary focus is on the youth of Canyon Lake, is offering scholarships to graduating seniors, both male and female, who plan on continuing their education. Continuing education can be in the form of four-year or two-year universities, vocational schools, institutes and academies. Scholarships are open to Canyon Lake residents only. Private school students are welcome to apply.

Applications are available through high school counselors at Temescal Canyon High School, Santa Rosa Academy, Lakeside High School, Elsinore High School, Lakeside & Elsinore High Schools, or by emailing the Jr. Women’s Club Scholarship Chairperson Shannon Anderson at avalon.monroe@gmail.com. Applications are due Apr. 16. The Jr. Women’s Club has awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships over the past eight years.

Fine Arts Guild

The Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild has initiated a scholarship program for graduating Canyon Lake high school seniors who want to pursue a degree in the field of Theatre Arts (music, music education, dance, visual arts, media arts, film and theatre performance).

Applicants will need to fill out an application form, provide two letters of recommendation, transcript(s) reflecting a 3.5 GPA in any theatre art course and a 3.0 GPA in other courses. Applications are due Apr. 20. Applications are available on the Fine Art Guild’s website at canyonlakeguild.com, Temescal High School and Lakeside High School counseling centers, or by contacting Dee Zasio at 951-244-0123.

P.E.O. Chapter WW

P.E.O. Chapter WW is offering a $500 scholarship to Canyon Lake high school senior girls or women who are currently enrolled in college. P.E.O. is an international philanthropic educational organization with a local chapter in Canyon Lake. For scholarship application, email canyonlakechapterww@gmail.com. Applications are due Apr. 21. Choraleers

The Canyon Lake Choraleers announced its 2018 Student Scholarship for graduating high school seniors. The scholarship for $500 is open to students who reside in Canyon Lake or are related to a resident of Canyon Lake or a member of the Choraleers and who are pursuing higher education in a field related to music, music education, theater, dance, media arts, film or performing arts. The application can be downloaded at canyonlakechoraleers.org. Applications are due May 1.

The award will be presented to the winning student during the Choraleers concert “Best of Big Bands” on Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge.

CLCT

The Canyon Lake Community Theatre (CLCT) is now accepting scholarship applications from graduating seniors. Applicants must have participated or worked with CLCT within the past two years to be eligible for a scholarship. Applicants must complete an application packet as well as write a two-page essay outlining the impact that being involved in CLCT has had on their life.
