Letter: Veterans Day

Editor, The Friday Flyer,

The City of Canyon Lake presented its 9th annual Veterans Day Celebration last Friday. This event has grown each year and this year’s program was extraordinary.

Thank you to my co-chair Jordan Ehrenkranz and the city’s Administrative Manager Mike Borja. Thank you to the amazing people and clubs who give so generously so that we can continue to grow this event. I must say a special thanks to the Canyon Lake Men’s Golf Club who donated $1,000 to this event which was sadly missed when preparing the programs. That club has always been a strong supporter and saying thank you for such dedication falls short.

Finally, I want to recognize the amazing core group of people who work tirelessly to make this happen. Not only does this group pour their blood, sweat and tears into this event from the opening overhead flight of the Warbirds West salute squadron, to the closing song of America the Beautiful sung by our very own Canyon Lake Choraleers, but they spend many days and hours in preparation so that we can celebrate those men and women who preserve our freedom. Thank you to all who have worked so hard to plant the flags, clean the memorial, lay the bricks and place the lawn flags.

A very special thanks to Judy Blanks, Fran Tibbet, Donna Lovejoy, Jill Batinich, Bert Barbay, Debby Gagnon and Karen Bevans. There has never been a request too great or a demand too exhausting for these core volunteers and I am humbled to be part of such an amazing group of dedicated citizens. They are absolutely awesome. Thank you one and all.

Vicki Warren, Mayor Pro Tem/ Veterans Committee Chair
