Eight-year-old Canyon Lake resident Jace Tolbert earned second place and third overall in the 49th annual Elsinore Grand Prix on Nov. 10. Jace raced in the 50cc class with 11 other kids. His fastest lap time was five minutes and six seconds.

The Elsinore Grand Prix is an open format race that takes place in and around the Lake Elsinore area in mid-November. It offers more than 60 classes accommodating motorcross, quads, UTV’s and mini’s, to name a few.

“I’m glad Lake Elsinore brought this race back to the streets and happy my son got to be a part of it, said Jace’s dad Josh.

The race is the first time the 2nd grader has competed in the sport of motocross. He started riding in January and practices a couple times a month. “He likes to desert ride at Ocotillo Wells,” said Jace’s mom Kelli.

Kelli is unsure if Jace wants to race again in the future. For now, he’s enjoying his win. “This was a long race. It was almost 40 minutes of riding and the track conditions were very harsh on these little bikes. I’m so proud of Jace for not only finishing, but for taking second place in his class,” said Kelli.
