Canyon Lake Library prepares for the holidays

Residents are invited to drop off new toys in the Hope for the Holidays toy collection box at the library. The toys will be distributed to foster children in Riverside County. The deadline is Dec. 8. Photo provided by Sandra Brautigam.

In the spirit of giving, the Canyon Lake Library is hosting a Hope for the Holidays toy collection box until Dec. 8. Donations of new toys, games, puzzles and books are being accepted. The items should be unwrapped with tags. The Hope Colabrative will distribute the items to foster children in Riverside County.

A new activity in the library includes an opportunity drawing for stuffed animals for the children. A name and contact ticket may be entered for each visit to the library. Drawings will be held on Saturdays with a new animal for adoption each week. Tickets will accumulate until the final drawing on Dec. 23.

Holiday programs at the library this month include Miss Ginny’s Story Time on Friday, Nov. 17, at 11:30 a.m. and Toddler Story Time on Monday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m.

Play Day in November will be held at the library on Monday, Nov. 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The new program includes yoga for kids, crafts, toys, music, story time and treats. The program provides social and networking opportunities for parents and fun, social interaction, sharing and language opportunities for the children.

Beginning in December, the library will provide a family craft during library hours. Using donated jewelry items, visitors can design their own pendant, sun catcher or tree ornament. All library programs are free to the public and do not require a library card to participate.

The library will be closing at 5 p.m. instead of 6 p.m. on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and will be closed the day after Thanksgiving. The library will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 5. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Canyon Lake Library staff thanks the City of Canyon Lake, Friends of the Canyon Lake Library and other community members for their support through the year. Librarian Sandra Brautigam said, “The support from the community has enabled the library to expand its services and programs offered free to the public. Something as simple as passing on the knowledge that Canyon Lake has a library can open a world of reading to newly relocated children and information opportunities to adults”.
