Pickleball Club hosts Costume Potluck Mixer

The Canyon Lake Pickleball Club held its first annual Costume Potluck-N-Play Mixer on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the new pickleball courts at East Port Park.

Forty-eight members enjoyed food, pickleball play and a costume contest. Prizes were awarded to for Best Costumes. “We had a great turn out. It was fabulous,” said Pickleball Club President Jeannette Williams.

Scott Brunoehlerl, an 80s rocker, and Nancy and Carl Duplan, a uniformed Catholic school couple, tied for Best Costume. “It was very entertaining watching people try to play in costume,” said member Diane Libring.

The Pickleball Club’s Social Play days are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 10 p.m.; Open Play days are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 10 a.m. with one court being reserved for beginners and clinics. Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played with a paddle and a baseball size wiffleball. According to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association’s 2015 Participant Report, pickleball participations was at 2.46 million in 2014.
